Donald Trump and his new Republican Party proved something: That a Constitution written when indoor plumbing was actually cutting-edge technology, is not itself strong enough to withstand a manipulative assault on it by a modern day organized crime mindset that literally came of age in the dark gaps found between its words.

The other day my son told my wife that I make way better grilled cheese than she does.

I had to remind them both that the secret ingredient to the perfect grilled cheese is good old Grateful Dead parking lot love.

Donald Trump LOVES Immigrants

President Douchebag

You’ve heard the phrase, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”. It’s the empty logic that conservatives use to short circuit gun control arguments.

I say we use the same method for the immigration knuckleheads:

“Immigrant don’t take American jobs, they’re hired by American business owners!”

Right, Donald?

Melania And The Amazing Messagemaking Greencoat

Yes, people are going to talk about her jacket, you tone deaf morons.

There is nothing about this jacket that says “First Lady”. It doesn’t even say, “Super-Ultra-Casual First Lady who’s away for the weekend”. And even if it isn’t meant to send a message, it does. And if you work in the White House, you know it sends one too. So, stop trying to pretend it’s the lying snowflake media.

The thing is though… I’m pretty sure Melania knows that.

Maybe she’s been planning her big escape, and it’s her wearing the coat triggers some sort of surgical extraction from the Secret Service. Hopefully it will be a better plan, and she makes it longer than a few weeks this time.

America, as I have known it

Being an American does not mean you should or shouldn’t possess a gun, but we should respect each other’s right to choose either. It’s a gun, it’s designed to kill people. You should be glad not everyone wants to do that.

Being an American does not depend on where you were born. We are all a mix, and we always have been. No one likes to be the last one picked for a team, so don’t be a jerk.

Being an American does not mean you need to speak a particular dialect, and we have never had an official language. Don’t be so self-centered, you look and sound different to other people too.

Being an American does not mean we must obey a particular religion or God, but we sure do know enough to keep them all out of our laws. If everyone doesn’t believe in something, then there’s no way you can rule with it. Ignoring this always leads to uprisings.

Being an American means you don’t need to know the words to our national anthem, or even to stand up during it. There’s people who think you should, and others who think you shouldn’t. The wonderful thing about freedom is when you get to exercise it.

Being an American does not mean you have to submit to an arranged marriage, or any marriage for that matter. And if you do want to marry someone else, we are finally beginning to realize that it’s no one’s business who you fall in love with. No matter how closed-minded people can be, no one like’s to be told what to do.

Being an American does not mean you have to fit in one of the predetermined parties that we group people by in politics. In fact, most of us rarely like everything that comes bundled up by a single political group. It’s almost as if people are actually different. That’s a good thing.

Being an American does not mean you have to like your president. In fact, we have always believed that a peaceful protest to can help right the wrongs we sometimes make. America has always tried to assure that the minority opinion gets heard. And when it doesn’t, it is our right to engage in constructive dissent to see that it does.

Being an American means that we recognize the world is bigger than us, most people are different from us, nothing is forever, a majority does not equal harmony, we don’t like bullies and monarchs, and we prefer to change our public servants often.

Being an American means that we take the good with the bad, and strive to be better next time. It means that you shouldn’t insult others for protesting during an anthem, especially if you can’t remember the words to our other national ballads.

Being an American means that we do believe, we do care, and we are united. But what we care about, what we believe in, and what we unite over, is different for each of us.

We are strong because we are different. We are special because we are equal. The most aggressive are the most afraid. And what looks like the end always brings a new beginning.

Trump blames border policy of separating parents from children on… yup, Democrats

Donald Trump has decided to blame democrats for Attorney General Jeff Sessions ‘zero tolerance’ approach to illegal border crossings. Even though Sessions himself said, “If you are smuggling a child then we will prosecute you, and that child will be separated from you as required by law.”

My guess is, because Trump knows that his base would never read a single news source that would contradict the Mango Mussolini Orange Ogre.

Jeff Sessions, a lifelong member of “The Republican Party of Family Values” somehow convinced himself that somehow this stupid-ass idea will deter people who are trying to escape gangs, drugs, murder, violence, and corruption, to not take their chances with the United States Border Patrol.

Well Donald, you live to ignore laws and norms… maybe you should step in and stop it, if it’s keeping you up at night.

It’s really just for the grown ups

America was a different place 240 years ago.

In the late 1700’s they thought that drinking all day, every day, was a good health practice. Of course on average, they also died in their 40’s and 50’s.

They believed that people with darker skin were not actually the same species as themselves.

You could openly hang out in the town square and purchase people’s votes with booze.

Dueling was still considered an acceptable way to settle a dispute.

So when we say we would like to re-examine our gun laws, it’s not because we want to take your guns. The NRA is lying when they say that. Just spend 2 minutes looking at a few other news sources.

See we were hoping that everyone could act like adults by talking about how we can uphold our Constitution, so people can keep their guns, and still keep some white guy (because 95% of the time, it is), born in the United States, from shooting up a school once a week.

You see, we figured we had all learned some shit over the last couple of centuries. But instead, some of the people around here still act like that kid in kindergarten who tried to keep all the toys for himself, and would try to hit you if you got too close to him. Well, now that kid has a deadly weapon.

Billionaires are behind everything, right?

The latest talking point from the political right is that the groundswell of support for the March To Save Our Lives was that it was funded by left-wing billionaires. Now, I have heard this from multiple talking heads, but none has offered anything like proof that this is the case. So my question to you is, why do you suppose they have said it?

  1. Because their own politics are funded by billionaires, so they assume that’s how it always happens.
  2. Because they are unable to accept the fact that so many people could disagree with them.
  3. Because it’s true, but don’t want to bother everyone with the facts.

Let’s ask James Madison

Let’s imagine it’s 1787, and you live in the newly formed United States. You know everyone in town, even crazy ol’ Abner Ledbetter, who has a farm down the road a ways. Well, one day, crazy ol’ Ab comes into town for supplies, and like most men, he is carrying his musket with him. What with the natives and forest beasts, a man can’t be too careful.

As he walks by the one-room schoolhouse, he suddenly screams and runs toward the one-room schoolhouse. He storms into the little building, and takes aim…

It is a massacre. Abner quick hands are able to reload the musket twice before he is finally stopped. Two are dead, and another will carry the lead ball for life.

When the news reached James Madison, do you suppose he thought to himself, “The only thing that will stop a bad chap with a musket, is a good chap with a musket!”?

Today is for the protestors. The teenagers who have done more than all politicians combined. They have certainly done more than the NRA, who has always placed a higher value on gun ownership than it does on the Americans that those same guns kill.

Until we the NRA is willing to talk about the issues of gun safety, instead of ratcheting everything up to 11, they should be treated as complicit in the murder of every American who has died as the result of a shooting in this country. Whether it be by a mass shooter, a paranoid militia member, an easily obtained method of suicide, or even a child who found a loaded weapon and pulled the trigger for the last time. The NRA has always placed sales over lives.

No more!

And as for the age of these very effective gun rights advocates? It might help to remember that, were this still 1780, they would be on the front lines fighting for the freedom of our country.

Exactly what they are doing now.
