Today we are forced to confront yet another chapter in the ongoing First Amendment Watch on the Trump Administration.

Keep in mind, if there had ever been such brazenly overt efforts to strip the Second Amendment in similar ways as Trump is pulling now on the First, you can guarantee that we would have already had an open revolt in this country. But for some reason, when it comes to Constitutional Rights that don’t have the same allure that comes from doubling as a hobby and/or lifestyle like the Second Amendment does, people have trouble grasping the actual impact of our First Amendment.

As intangible as thoughts and beliefs can be, they are literally the bedrock upon which all of our other rights and freedoms come from. That’s why it surprises me that I am not hearing more outcries over this! I can’t possibly be one of the only ones seeing this unfold!

Today Mr. Trump instituted what is described as “a temporary media blackout at the Environmental Protection Agency, banning press releases, blog updates or posts to the agency’s social media accounts”.

At first glance, this would appear to be a direct attack on environmental legislation. But, while pro-EPA groups run to the press about what’s happening behind closed doors, our First Amendment rights take another hit. And if no one stands up to defend it, the next attack (probably coming in a day or two at this rate) will be even more draconian than this one.

It’s time to organize and mobilize like the Second Amendment folks, because as I’ve said before, scream all you want about the Second Amendment, but without the First no one will hear you.
