So the GOP decided that the last year of Obama’s term as president is not important enough to allow him to appoint a Supreme Court Justice. A dangerous precedent that will certainly come back to bite them in the ass.
Now John McCain has made sure to let everyone know that, moving forward, anyone from the Democratic Party who ends up in the White House will not be allowed to appoint any Supreme Court Justices, ever apparently.
The good news is that this means that they probably weren’t acting racially if they plan on applying this kind of blanket denial to a Clinton presidency, or a Sanders presidency if that were to have existed for that matter. It just means they are an assemblage of pussy grabbing asswipes with an ax to grind and an “I’m taking my ball and going home” attitude. It also means that eventually we will have an odd number on The Court again as soon as the next Justice kicks it.
But also realize, the real reason they are so adamant about this coveted prize is that a seat (or more) on the Supreme Court is worth far more politically than multiple White House residencies. Executive actions and presidential legacies are far easier to reverse than legal precedence. So much so that the Republican Party has decided that the bad press they get by being a gaggle of impotent ninnies is worth at least a minimum of one Supreme Court appointment.
