A great deal of stock and support is put on to politicians and public figures who are willing to take a stand on principles. While I can see the merits of standing on principle in general, I can also see the fault. Because standing on principle means that at some level we are saying to ourselves “I know I am right, this is how things are.”

Yet if there is even one person with a differing stance it means that our rock solid position is actually subjective at some level.

One of the most courageous things any of us can do is to look deep inside and question why we believe something. More than that, to be willing to put our own beliefs aside long enough to consider another view is the entrance to a larger world, and ultimately a freer mind.
